It’s okay, you’re not perfect; coffee still tastes great cold!

A friend of mine once said “I heard this song and it instantly made me think of you!”

Has your stomach ever dropped when someone says something like that? You’re not sure whether this is a pie-in-the-face type of assault, or a compliment to the wonderfully-imperfect human being you are.

Either one could be that moment when you say “Really? You think so!?” I should have mentioned she was a good friend. The kind of friend that will tell you how it is when you’re really not sure what “IT” is yourself. So, in the whirlwind of that particular busy day, as a working mom trying to balance it all, those words resonated deeply.

Deep enough that I’ll turn up the volume for that three-mile car ride to the grocery store for some light-hearted encouragement when I’ve just realized I didn’t get snacks for my daughter’s softball team game that starts in 10 minutes. Sigh… It happens. And it’s okay!

It was five or six years ago, but I remember the sound emitting from her iPhone as she played me the song that she so excitedly thought was me.

She was right. Fittingly, it WAS me. At that time, maybe more so than now, but it still comes back – on those days when my patience of being a mom (and all the responsibilities that come with it) is tested a little more than I like to admit. “So break me of impatience.” And remember, if your coffee gets cold, add some ice.

“It’s not the end of the world.” Check out: “This is the Stuff” by Francesca Battistelli.

Do you have that one song that fits a moment in your life? Let me know. I’d love to hear (about) it.

Alana.

Hard to pick just one song I’ll have to think about that. Love your blog, you will have loads of fun and I will get over the fact that you are a “gator”!

I definitely will say that I cannot pick just one song, but you are such an eclectic person & that shows thru your taste in music. I do know that every time I hear Zac Brown Band I do think if you & how surprised I was to know how much you loved them.
